I have been wondering what I will need to take with me to college. Will I need this or that or both? What if I don't need it at all? I decided to compile a list. Hopefully this will help other ingoing freshman.
Basic Room Needs - Clothing. toiletries, etc
Comfortable clothes
I've talked with a lot of current college students who say this is one of the most important things freshman tend to overlook. Thinking college is like high school and the need to be dressed to the 9's every day. Most students have told me jeans and a t-shirt or sweatshirt is best to go to classes in. It's uber comfy and you worry only about what you are there to do and that is pay attention in class. *Don't forget comfortable shoes as you will be running around campus a lot of the time* *TIP: Take a ridiculous amount of socks and underwear laundry day won't be as often as it is at home.
Bathroom & accessories
One thing I have been told over and over again is how the showers might look clean, but think of everyone that has been in there. So shower shoes are a must! You can always buy some rubber flip flops. Look into Old Navy, flip-flop deals are always going on.
Let me say this a couple of times. Hygiene is a must so yes do shower every day and brush those teeth. Things you'll need; toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, soap, a towel, and a little bucket to carry it all in.
This might not be in the bathroom category but you will need laundry detergent, softener, etc. You will also need a laundry bag to lug all those clothes to the laundry room. *TIP: buy the tablets more expensive but you won't have to carry that bottle of TIDE every time.
*Make sure to buy extra long twin bed sheets this is what most dorms carry. But check your colleges website to make sure. And don't forget that comforter.*
Electronics
An alarm clock is essential especially if you thought those early classes wouldn't be hard to get up for. Make sure you test it out too. Sometimes those darn manuals don't even know what they are talking about.
Laptop
Probably one of the most important things to take with you. Not many people stick with that paper and pencil anymore. Luckily nowadays laptops are a lot cheaper than they used to be. You can easily get a laptop with 3 GB of ram and around a 250 GB hard drive for about $500 anywhere. Make sure it has a wireless option which most do but check to make sure. *Tip research your laptop very well, don't be afraid to ask questions!
Be Food Smart!
Fridge & Microwave
Now my college dorms do not allow microwaves but I believe we can have a mini fridge, as always check with the dorms or on your colleges website. A mini fridge can be a couple of hundred dollars and microwaves most likely less just go to a department store and look around.
Thanks for reading for those of you who might be a little lazy to read here is an awesome list.
